Through the Balancing Blocks I found the in the Camberwell Archive, I immediately saw a resemblance between the simplistic form of the building blocks, and the architectural forms of high rises and system built structures. This then led me on to look at town and city planning. The blocks became tools to aid my understanding of this complex area, and by focusing on these unassuming blocks; I gained a better knowledge of a far more complex topic. I investigated the history of not only the architecture of one particular estate in London, but also the social history of it, finding archive materials and home cine footage of 1970s estate life. I also explored many visual forms of response, and have created maps, typefaces, books, drawings etc. Which have all helped inform my ultimate outcomes. The work is made to be interacted with and once again be handled, much like the Camberwell Collection was initially intended to be.
