This Hackman and Co teapot was brought into the collection with two pieces of masking tape over it’s lid, applied to keep the teapot safe during transportation. The same piece of tape remains on the teapot today. This suggests the teapot has not fulfilled its intended purpose as a kitchen utensil or as an object within a handling collection. As the masking tape has been on the teapot since it entered the collection it can also be seen with equal value to the teapot itself. The masking tape also adopts a voice of authority, implying for viewers to not touch the teapot or handle it with a lot of care. To highlight these tensions between the teapot and masking tape is a collection of utensils hindered through the application of masking tape.
